When is kindergarten registration for the 2012-2013 school year?
The Erie School District will hold kindergarten registration during the week of June 11 – 15, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day.
Where do I register my child for kindergarten?
Please register your child at his or her home school, as defined by the K-5 attendance areas (the K-5 map is available here). If you are unsure of your home school, please register at the school closest to your home or call Child Accounting at 814-874-6150. If you are unable to enroll your child between the hours listed above please contact your home school to make other arrangements.

FAQs updated to include additional clarification on student assignments based on revised attendance areas
The FAQ document has been updated to include clarifying information related to students assignments based on revised attendance areas:
What students will be reassigned to their "home" schools?
Next year’s 6th, 7th and 8th grade students (this year’s current 5th, 6th and 7th grade students) will be permitted to remain in their current school (with the exception of Grover Cleveland, Jefferson, and Perry Schools which will be restructured to K-5 schools and will no longer enroll 6th, 7th and 8th grade students).
All other students in grades K-5 will be enrolled at their home schools as defined by the attendance areas/boundaries. For example:
One benefit of this restructuring is that advanced/honors instruction will be available at each school in the district. This phase of the optimization plan is also an attempt to balance the 2012-2013 budget. In order to achieve the level of financial savings the district needs to remain solvent and maintain reasonable class sizes and balanced student populations, it is important that students enroll in their home schools. The district studied the feasibility of “grandfathering” various grade levels at each school and honors students at Harding and Connell. Unfortunately, each of these options would require additional staff and the possible addition of modular classrooms to accommodate the students.

- If your child will be in grades 1-5 next school year and you live within that school’s attendance area, your child’s school assignment will not change.
- Students who will be entering grades 1-5 next year who do not live within their current school’s attendance area will be returned to their home school as part of the district’s restructuring. While this will only impact a relatively small number of families who live outside of their current school’s attendance area, this improvement will help the district balance class sizes and school populations and accommodate the school restructuring announced this spring. In addition, honors instruction will be available at every school in the district.

Update: 8:17 p.m. | Board approves resolution to seek PA Department of Education approval for school closings and K-8 reconfigurations
In an 8-0 vote, the Board of School Directors approved a resolution authorizing district administration to do all things necessary for the closing of Burton Elementary School, Irving Elementary School and Glenwood Elementary School and to restructure grade configurations at Jefferson Elementary, Grover Cleveland Elementary, and Perry Elementary to accommodate students in grades K-5.
The resolution also authorized the administration to hold a legal section 780 hearing regarding the closings and restructuring of the various K-8 configurations and obtain Department of Education approval for the reconfigurations this summer. The Board also directed the administration to send notices to affected temporary professional and professional employees as outlined in sections 524 and 780 of Public School Code requirements.
What's Next?
The section 780 hearing, scheduled for May 14 at 6 p.m. at East High School, initiates a three month waiting period during which the Superintendent must notify the Pennsylvania Department of Education of the district’s intentions and schedule a final vote to officially close and decommission the schools, pending Pennsylvania Department of Education approval. This final step can happen not less than three months after the section 780 hearing.
