Erie School District ready to act on building plans

A headline on the front page of the Nov. 12, 1969, issue of the Erie Press blares "Erie city schools saddled with ancient buildings."

"Most of these buildings were built to carry on education to meet the demands of a half century ago and which today are obsolete," then-Superintendent Joseph Zipper said.

More than four decades later, the situation is largely unchanged, Erie schools Superintendent Jay Badams said. In 10 years, the tab for deferred maintenance and repairs is expected to reach $300 million.
